Barbara S. Quast (jpg - 45357 bytes)Barbara S. Quast, ASID Allied Member, founded Beese Quast Design, Inc. (BQD), a full service Interior Design firm, in 1992.  In the spring of 1994, BQD merged with the architectural firm Beese Design Group.

Barbara was born in Canada of German parents and spent her early years in Germany.  She came to the United States in 1970, but continued to spend her summers with relatives abroad.  In 1982 she received a liberal arts degree from the University of Virginia.  In 1988 she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Virginia Community College with a degree in Interior Design.

Her work includes both residential and commercial projects. She maintains an active client base in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, Northern Virginia and Loudoun County.  Not only do satisfied clients continue to use her services over the years, but refer others to her for their design and decorating needs.  The hallmarks of her practice, versatility and customer service, account for this client loyalty.  Past projects span the range in style from traditional, to Arts and Crafts, to thoroughly modern. Each design is a creative interpretation of the client’s taste, as well as an intelligent response to specific needs.

The foundation of Barbara's approach to a project comes from her early experience as a CAD operator for a small architectural firm.  Rather than simply decorating a space, she first considers the visual and physiological effects of the architecture.  Next, she considers the practical aspects of a project.  Such considerations ultimately lead to a successful and functional design, in addition to an aesthically pleasing one.  Finally, Barbara considers her clients’ aesthetic preferences in style, color and mood.  Her designs include carpeting, furnishings, window treatments, wall coverings, wall hangings and accessories.  Many of her designs include custom features:  furniture, rugs, stained glass, and faux painting techniques.  Each project is a unique expression of the designer and client collaboration.

Barbara has an extensive knowledge of the industry's countless resources.  She regularly visits the Washington Design Center and several “To The Trade Only “ showrooms and designer libraries.  In addition, twice a year she travels to the industry's premier event, the High Point Furniture Market, to research new products and resources.

Barbara lives and works in Loudoun County, Virginia, with her husband, Dennis, young son, Andreas, three cats and an occasional dog.  In her spare time she enjoys gardening, painting and traveling.  Her artwork has been shown throughout the area.  Most notably, she is co-founder of the Poets and Painters Collaborative.  As such, she has coordinated, and participated in, twelve exhibits featuring collaborations between a select group of artists and poets.
